Eric is the son of Anthony
and Shirley Verteramo, and brother to Michael and T.J.
Eric and his family are lifelong residents of the City of Schenectady. Eric
graduated from St. Anthony's Elementary School in 1988 and then attended Linton
High School, graduating in 1992. He was a student at Schenectady County
Community College and then attended the University of New Haven graduating Magna
Cum Laude in 1997 with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice Forensic Science.
Throughout his scholastic years and beyond he was an avid athlete excelling in
baseball. He began his baseball interest by playing four years at the Northside
Little League and then on to Babe Ruth, Connie Mack, the Twilight League, Linton
High School and Schenectady County Community College.
Eric became a sworn member of the Schenectady Police Department on September 13,
1998. He graduated from the Zone 5 Law Enforcement Academy in February 1999 and
then served in various patrol and community policing assignments throughout the
City. Eric was active in the Police Athletic League and served as a role model
for the youth of the community.
On April 11th, 2004 while responding to a serious personal injury motorcycle
crash, Eric's patrol unit struck a utility pole resulting in his untimely death
in the line of duty.
Eric will always be remembered as a loving son and brother as well as a caring
and compassionate relative and friend. He was a dedicated, courteous, respected
and professional public servant who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to
his community.

Scholarship Presentation
The Schenectady Police Benevolent Association has awarded the third annual Ptl.
Eric J. Verteramo Scholarship to Victoria Russell.
Each year, the PBA will award a $2,500 scholarship to a Schenectady High School
senior student-athlete who will be majoring in a criminal justice related field
at an accredited college or university. Due to successful fundraising efforts,
including this golf classic the PBA has increased the award from $1,000 to
$2,500.
Victoria, a varsity softball player, diver and cheerleader will attend Post
University in Connecticut this fall. She said she remains undecided on what
exactly she wants to do, but said she is leaning toward detective work with a
goal to get into the FBI.
